Dr.Danny Chawan, Chief Scientist

Dr. Danny Chawan (“Dad”) is the Chief Scientist at Smarter Foods. He has a passion for food, health, and finding unique solutions to challenges. Danny has worked in the food industry for the past 40 years. During this time, he has worked on countless products that have been enjoyed by people all over the world. Danny spent 23 years working with Borden Foods, Inc. At Borden, Danny worked on many of its flagship products, including Cracker Jack snacks, Wise Potato Chips, and Classico Pasta. After leaving Borden Foods in 1997, Danny founded Srim Enterprises www.srim.com, a food technology consulting firm. Danny has helped dozens of companies bring exciting new products to market, including a fruit and nut snack mix www.peeledsnacks.com and an energy bar that helps you keep warm in cold conditions www.thermalbar.com.

Danny holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Andhra University (Hyderabad, India), a Master of Fruit and Vegetable Science from the Central Food Technology Research Institute (CFTRI, Mysore, India), a Master of Science in Food Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Ph.D. in Food Science from the Ohio State University. He holds 10 issued U.S. patents pertaining to pasta and pasta processing and is a co-inventor on eight international patents.

When Danny manages to tear himself away from work, he spends his time tinkering in his lab (he never really stops working), gardening, and spoiling his first grandchild.
